Elites 2025: The Class of The Brazilian Political Class

Resumo: The Elites 2025 Project: The Class of the Brazilian Political Class aims to map the class links of the primary Brazilian politicians. The study analysed 702 political positions, including the President and Vice-President of the Republic, state governors and their deputies, mayors of capital cities and their deputies, senators, and federal deputies. The study’s variables incorporate databases from the electoral courts and Brazilian legislative houses; Federal Revenue data; data from the Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform); and original prosopographical data collection regarding the politicians’ marital, educational, and associational backgrounds. The database used as its corpus of analysis those politicians holding these positions on 01/07/2025, covering 700 politicians in total, as two positions were vacant at that time. In addition to the data spreadsheet, this database includes a codebook explaining the variable entries and an extensive raw material document featuring screenshots of the sources consulted for every variable.
